Connecticut Avenue is one of the diagonal Avenues and one of his ideas.

The Taft Bridge will carry you over Rock Creek Park. The bridge was built between 1897 and 1907 and has been called an "engineering tour de force" because it is one of the largest unreinforced concrete structures in the world.

Beautiful lions welcomes us you on the bridge. The originally lions was made of concrete too, but in the 1990’s they were in so bad condition that new ones was made en replaced in year 2000.

The Rock Creek Park is a natural recreational area, where you can explore the nation's history, walk along a quiet trail, bicycling along Rock Creek, attending a Ranger led program or view wildlife.
The major portion of the area lies north of the National Zoo and was established by act of Congress 1890, the same year that Yosemite National Park was established. Potomac River runs south of the Creek.

Lincoln Memorial, Washington DC

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his speech from Lincoln Memorial and as mentioned earlier the Lincoln Memorial today is the symbol of Civil Rights movement as well as what it was meant to be: A memorial for the President whom saved the Union and fought for Democracy.

The Lincoln Memorial Washington DC is constructed primarily of Colorado Yule marble and Indiana limestone.

There are 36 columns, each representing the 36 states in the Union of Lincoln’s time. The name of the state is carved in the frieze directly above.
The memorial was completed in 1922. At that time there were 48 states in the Union and their names are carved in exterior attic walls.

The White House tour in Washington DC

The White House, located at 1600 Pennsylvania contains 3 elevators, 6 levels, 412 doors, 147 windows, 132 rooms, 35 bathrooms, 8 staircases and 28 fireplaces.

The White House dates back more than 200 years and is built of white-painted Auquia sandstone in late Georgian style. President William Howard Taft expanded the West Wing, and created the first Oval Office which was eventually moved and the section was expanded.

The first resident to the White House was John Adams. He was the second president of the United States.

Because The White House is the private home of the president, each president had made their own addition and changes to the house and most presidents have added more and more to The White House and it is said that because the president and his family were living there, it has often gone too fast and therefore a big renovation was necessary during Harry Truman’s presidency and he and his family was mostly living in the Blair House which is the big building coming up right.

Since Truman in 1952 moved out there hasn’t been too many alterations – except a jogging track during the Clinton-period, an out-door pool when Ford was in the house and a Bowling alley during Nixon – of course all in the good name of sport!
